Decorating an Outdoor Space with Vintage!

One of our sweet customers came to the barn on a mission! They had just completed this fun, open, outdoor living space and she was looking for vintage furniture and finds to decorate it and really give it a completed, fun, and functional look! She found lots of great items and then asked if we would help her set it up! Now, this lady is fun and she likes lots of color, her home is joy and blessing to all who enter, so I knew that this was going to be a blast! Take a look at the completed space!

See if you can spot some of the items from the last barn sale....

First off, they needed a functional space...This family is blessed with children, grandchildren and many friends, so we tried to get in as many sitting spaces as possible!
Recognize the green cabinet? It is perfect piece to use as a serving bar and full of storage underneath for those napkins and paper plates!
We used a tall bistro style table they already owned....See those bird cage stands in the background? Those are great way to add height and color to your space. They will look wonderful with flowering baskets for the spring too! ( or birdcages!)
This would be my favorite spot to sit...we used her black vintage glider, placed the wooden ironing board behind it as a sofa table or additional serving area and put the orange wagon as a coffee table! I'm so glad that wagon went to a good home...I loved it!
Then we added the vintage green washer in and suggested they use it as cooler to ice down drinks for parties! How fun!

We did put some drinks in there as a surprise when they came home!

Are you ready for a visit yet?
Doesn't it look relaxing? We also left them chips and hot sauce to enjoy with their drinks...hopefully, they will get many enjoyable hours in this space! We sure had fun putting it together with vintage finds and the great items they already owned. Vintage items are fun, but even better when they are used and enjoyed!  Hope you are enjoying all your recent purchases too!

Grandma Gert's Chocolate Pie

I realize this is not the recipe I promised, but it's coming, I won't forget! In the meantime, here is my precious grandma's very simple, very good, sure to please your family, chocolate pie recipe! Ready?
 Here is the finished product...

Okay, bake according to package directions one deep dish pie shell! Make sure you get the DEEP dish shell or all your chocolate won't fit and that would be terrible because then the cook would have to eat it! Can you tell I've gotten a shell that was too small before? :) Now, I was baking 2 pies on this day and this recipe is easy to double if needed!

Now you are going to cook your chocolate pudding on the stove. You need Jello brand COOK & SERVE pudding chocolate mix, not the instant kind, again cook according to the directions. Use the larger box of mix also. When the pudding starts to stick to your whisk, it's almost ready. When it thickens, take it off the burner and add in 1/4 to 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.

This is one of the things that makes it so good! The chips will melt in your hot pudding, so whisk them around good until they are melted and then pour your pudding in the pie shells.

The pudding will be hot, so it will need to cool before you add the topping. Place your pies in the refrigerator for 1 - 2 hours. They will firm up and then you can add the topping!

The topping is real whipped cream. Buy the smallest pint of whipping cream, and whip it in your mixer. Add 1 tsp vanilla and 1/3 c of sugar to the cream as it is mixing. Watch it, or you'll end up with butter ( yes, It is true confession day, I have done that too!) After, you give it the finger licking taste test, and your pie is cooled, then just add the whipped cream. You can also shave a little baker's chocolate shaved on the top for looks!

Doesn't it look good? This is an easy recipe and I'll guess that your family will like it as much as we do!

Grandma Gert's Chocolate Pie

1 deep dish baked pie shell
1 box of chocolate cook and serve pudding mix ( larger one)
1/2 c chocolate chips
3 c Milk for pudding
Small pint whipping cream
Vanilla and sugar to taste

Bake your shell, cook the pudding, while it's warm add in the chocolate chips. Pour in pudding in shell and let cool for 1 - 2 hours. Whip up whipping cream, add vanilla and sugar to taste. Spread topping on pie, add chocolate chips or shavings to taste and for looks! ENJOY!!!!

Stories from the Barn...

Our best sale and donations yet, THANKS to you!

Don't we have the sweetest, most helpful, all around wonderful gals who help us? We are blessed beyond measure!
Well, these 2 fun gals found us via the Rose Festival and we were sure glad! They are just as much fun as they look! It's always more fun to shop with girlfriends!

Look at this festive cutie! Now she is ready for fall! Hair and all - that's one creative mama!

Pumpkins in the house!

But I saved my favorite story for last...It goes like this. We had 2 tackle boxes for sale under the tent and those boxes were full of all things fishing...not anything really great by my standards, but very exciting to any young fisherman. Well, my friend Ann's sons had been admiring those boxes, (they were the young gentlemen at the Lemonade stand) since the beginning of the sale and had planned to purchase them with their lemonade tips. However, an older gentleman purchased both of the boxes right before they got to the barn with their dollars on Friday...they saw the boxes were gone, and were just a little disappointed. The older gentlemen must have seen their faces, but life is full of letting go of expectations right?

Well, one of Ann's sons came out to the barn on Saturday and had to entertaining himself while we were working. About noon, I looked up from the register and there stood the older gentlemen from yesterday with one of the fishing boxes in his hand. He looked at me and said, I have this box and I want to give it to the young boy who was here yesterday. Well, that boy was quickly summoned and was stunned to say the least. I'm sure he said thank-you and you couldn't wipe the grin of his face for the rest of the day. My favorite part is the older man said to the boy, " You never how things will turn out, so keep your faith." WOW! Talk about a life lesson learned! He had also replaced some of the items with newer, better items than were in the box before. Does this boy look proud and happy to you?

The kindness of strangers never ceases to amaze me! You never know how things will turn out...it looked pretty bad to me on wednesday morning, and yet by 2 it was sunshine and blue skies! We hope the barn blessed you in some way too!

Stay tuned for the chocolate chip cookie recipe..it's coming soon!
